Fathia Nkrumah was the first wife of Kwame Nkrumah, the first president of Ghana. She was originally from Egypt and met Nkrumah while he was studying in the United States. They were married in 1957, the same year that Ghana gained its independence from British colonial rule.
Fathia was known for her support of Nkrumah's political career and was actively involved in various social and charitable activities in Ghana. She was also involved in efforts to promote women's rights and empowerment.
After Nkrumah was overthrown in a coup in 1966, Fathia and their children were forced to leave Ghana and went into exile in Egypt. She continued to advocate for her husband's legacy and worked to preserve his memory after his death in 1972.
Fathia Nkrumah passed away in 2007 in Egypt, where she had lived for many years. She is remembered as a strong and supportive partner to Kwame Nkrumah during his time as president of Ghana.
